February 2006 Calgary, AB – Clarity.ca Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of the new Medical Ward of the 21st Century (W21C) website. Clarity has been an early industry supporter of the W21C Initiative, lending their support and expertise to a number of projects. Clarity’s team of skilled developers and designers provided website development and design services for the creation of the W21C website. Clarity’s biggest contribution to the Initiative was developing the W21C brand, which includes a logo and a word mark. Clarity is presently working as a research partner on a W21C project to develop a web-based communications tool for the seamless discharge of hospitalized medical patients to the outpatient primary care setting.

The W21C Initiative is a joint venture between the Calgary Health Region and the University of Calgary. They approached Clarity to develop a brand, logo and website design portraying W21C Initiative’s key messages and addressing problems of suboptimal communication. Clarity’s collaboration efforts with W21C’s CFI Working Group have surpassed the W21C’s goals by developing a website that illustratively reflects W21C principles and allowing staff to update and manage content effortlessly with the installation Clarity Content Manager (CCM5).

“Clarity has done a wonderful job in developing the brand, logo and website for W21C,” states Barry Baylis, Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary. “Clarity's depth of willingness and expertise has greatly assisted us in achieving important early milestones in our complex multidisciplinary research program involving innovation of patient safety and care within the Calgary Health Region and the University of Calgary. I am pleased with the way they were able to effectively demonstrate our goals and accomplishments.”

Clarity’s outstanding efforts in developing, implementing and pilot testing a web-based communication tool for the seamless discharge of hospitalized medical patients to the outpatient primary care setting has positively impacted the delivery of health care—by helping the W21C achieve their goals of improving the innovative process of patient care and safety. The website’s success has benefited doctors, researchers, professors and above all students—by creating an environment where ideas develop and accomplishments are achieved, the advancement of patient care and safety will yield rewarding outcomes.

W21C’s vision is to shape the future of clinical care by undertaking research projects, advancing clinical care practices, and providing educational opportunities that focus on improving patient safety and enhancing quality of care. W21C is aspiring to create a 'living laboratory' where researchers, healthcare professionals and students can come together to form multidisciplinary and collaborative research partnerships. Their hope is that the knowledge created by these partnerships will lead to transformative and innovative practices, technologies and products that will positively impact the delivery of health care at a national and international level.
